Jackson Hole is world-wide known as one of the premier ski destinations with its difficult terrain and apres-ski scene. However, it isn’t just for skiing. Hiking the mountain trails around Jackson Hole, and inside Grand Teton National Park offers some of the best hiking I  have ever had…from the sheer magnitude of the mountains, to the variety of roaming wildlife. Here are some photos to whet your appetite for going there for some hot summer hikes, or cooler early autumn hikes with colorful trees. My wife especially enjoys the getting up at 5am to do “Moose Patrol” at none other than Moose Junction. Be ready to take some of the best scenery pictures of your life!

Don’t discount a trip to Wyoming in the summer months: When the snow finally melts at Grand Teton National Park, it becomes a stunning playground for hiking and wildlife viewing. For the inside scoop on where to hike this summer, we turned to Kurt Johnson of Wild Things of Wyoming, one of Jackson Hole’s leading naturalists and the in-house hiking expert for Hotel Terra, the area’s only luxury eco hotel. “Grand Teton National Park is a hiker’s paradise and offers a wide variety of hiking options that cater to all abilities,” Johnson says. Here, he shares hikes for outdoor fanatics of all stripes.

“This easy hike is located just a few miles from Hotel Terra in the Rockefeller Preserve, which has only been open to the public during recent years. The views of the mountains from Phelps Lake are exceptional, and the trails are limited in their capacity for hikers, which makes for a more solitary experience. In late summer and fall, this is one of the best regions of the park to see black bears foraging on berries…bear spray is advised!”
